Fair Trade artisans, producers and trading enterprises are facing one of the greatest disruptions in the history of the movement. We are calling for your support to co-fund an exciting series of events that will bring people together to grow the life-changing impact of Fair Trade.
To help us do this, Mitos Urgel is travelling from Chiang Mai to share inspiring stories of how WEAVE Fair Trade is responding to the humanitarian crisis on the Thai/ Myanmar border where thousands of displaced people from Myanmar have taken refuge. Mitos will be joined by a host of changemakers in Australia to talk about how socially and environmentally responsible enterprise has the power to create tangible change in some of the world’s most disadvantaged regions.
Please support us to make this exciting tour happen and on our mission to change trade - for good.
By clicking CONTRIBUTE to this campaign, you can:
- Purchase tickets for amazing online and in-person events
- Browse over 50 rewards donated by Fair Trade Association members
- Become an official event sponsor, see options at the bottom of the rewards list.
Fair Trade is all about the way we do business. Our mission is to alleviate poverty through trade.
Fair Trade provides access to market for disadvantaged producers - empowering them to build their own businesses and communities. Fair Trade works to support communities who are struggling with poverty in disadvantaged markets, by providing fair access to work, fair pay, and fair working conditions. Fair Trade also works with producers to ensure good environmental practices, including reducing carbon footprint and minimising plastic use.
Keynote Speaker: Mitos Urgel, President of WFTO Asia
Mitos Urgel is the President of WFTO Asia, is an alliance of over 120 Guaranteed Fair Trade Enterprises in Asia promoting justice in International trade. She is also the President and CEO of WEAVE (Women' s Education for Advancement and Empowerment) a WFTO Guaranteed social enterprise. For over 25 years, Mitos has worked to advance the rights, status and dignity of women including refugees and underprivileged indigenous women and their families in Thailand, Myanmar and other parts of Asia through livelihoods and education programs. |

Gang of 6 - Zebra, Giraffe, Lion, Elephant, Monkey .... and Octopus!
The buddies. A set of 6 wild animal soft toys made by highly skilled weavers in rural Sri Lanka.
A set of all our jungle animal friends ~ but somehow an octopus arrived and photo-bombed and joined the gang.
Made from 100% handwoven cotton textiles.
Sri Lanka has a rich history of weaving, a timeless skill that has been passed down through generations of predominantly women. However, this industry has been under threat as master weavers retire and younger generations who choose not to follow in their footsteps. Our Fair Trade partner works with over 1000 weavers, supporting them to grow the market for their skills, both in Sri Lanka and for international export, keeping this time-honoured industry alive.
