Travel is an exceptional way to explore the world and one that everyone should have the opportunity to experience! However, for the 1 in 5 Australians with disability (PWD) it can be daunting to even begin planning for.
Empowering Experiences (formerly GetAboutAble) is a social enterprise and B2B Accessibility & Inclusion Consultancy on a mission to transform the tourism industry. We empower tourism businesses to embed accessibility into their operations — so inclusion becomes the norm, not the exception.
We don’t just advocate for inclusion—we equip tourism businesses with the tools, strategies, and confidence to lead the movement toward barrier-free travel.
Empowering Experiences has been a lifeline, a voice, and a beacon to improve access and inclusion for people with disabilities in leisure activities that most people take for granted. But we need your support to help stay open and rebuild. Every piece of support will count, no matter how large or small.
This is about saving a movement, a community and hope for a future where no person with a disability ever feels left behind.
We are offering different levels of pledges to help make lasting change:
- $50 – Access Ally : Distribute inclusive tourism guides to 5 businesses
- $100 – Inclusion Champion : Support toolkit development for use by operators
- $250 – Empowerment Partner : Fund a 1-hour training session for a local tourism business (recipient nominations welcome)
- $500 – Impact Advocate : Subsidise accessibility audit for a regional or small operator (recipient nominations welcome)
- $1,000+ – Barrier-Breaker Circle : Public recognition on our site and program materials, plus 200 company shares per $1,000
- $5,000+ – Systems Shifter : Sponsor regional rollout, inclusion in national awareness efforts, public recognition on our site and program materials, plus 1000 company shares per $5,000
A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER
Hi, I'm Yasmine Gray, Founding Director of Empowering Experiences (previously GetAboutAble).
I have a lifetime of experience as an avid traveller for both business and leisure, including over 25 years of travel with a disability. I created this social enterprise to promote participation of people with disability in travel & leisure, and to help the tourism sector better cater to people with mobility, vision, hearing, and other access needs.
I’m ask for your support after finding myself at a crossroads I never wanted to reach. Due to the sudden withdrawal of vital financial support for my role as a business owner, I am facing the heartbreaking possibility of having to close Empowering Experiences.
This valuable social enterprise was never "just a business"; and it is devastating to think that Empowering Experiences may no longer be able to continue fighting for the joy, dignity, and full participation of people like me, people who want nothing more than to enjoy life to its fullest.
We need your help in order to be able to continue championing for people with disability, by equipping business and organisations with the necessary tools to ensure that every person can experience the joy of travel!

Empowering Experiences was founded on the belief that accessibility is more than a necessity for individuals - it’s an opportunity to create a better world. Today, that mission has expanded, to inspire businesses and government to champion accessible and inclusive environments across every industry, and not just in the tourism industry.
Through our expertise in accessibility assessments, Disability Access and Inclusion Plans (DAIPs), training, design consultation, digital solutions, destination guides and inclusive marketing strategies, we’ve helped countless clients to unlock the potential to embrace accessibility as a catalyst for tangible and lasting impact in their communities.
Our consultancy services offer businesses a comprehensive and practical approach to transforming their offerings, from accessibility and staff training to digital content and community engagement. Through this suite, businesses can systematically address accessibility gaps, making inclusion an integral part of their customer experience and positioning themselves as leaders in a growing market.
WHY IT MATTERS
Every day, millions of people with disability and other access needs are excluded from travel experiences—not because they can’t travel, but because the tourism industry wasn’t designed with them in mind. Empowering Experiences is changing that.
Nearly one in five Australians, or 4.4 million people, have a disability. Notably, an estimated 80% of these disabilities are invisible, affecting approximately 3.5 million individuals. In today’s hospitality industry, inclusive customer service is no longer optional — it’s essential.
At Empowering Experiences , w e envision a world where accessibility and inclusion are the standard, not the exception—where every space, service, and opportunity is designed for everyone. By challenging limitations and reshaping industries, we strive to create a future where diversity is celebrated, barriers are eliminated, and inclusivity fuels innovation. Together, we are building a society where every individual, regardless of ability, can fully participate, thrive, and belong.
