We’re Yes Help Network, a youth-led group in Western Sydney and we want to be part of a community where multicultural young women are seen, heard and celebrated for exactly who they are.
What she’s carrying
Growing up between cultures means carrying a lot: family expectations, neglected dreams, study, work, faith. Talking about confidence, equality, respect and feeling safe is hard, and those conversations often don’t happen at home, work or school.
Paint, journals and a room full of women and girls who get it
We’re running two creative workshops in Parramatta for 25 young multicultural women and girls aged 16 to 25. They’ll paint, make collages, journal and write about where they come from and who they want to be.
Nobody needs to be good at art. Just taking part in creative activities is good for wellbeing. What matters is having a space where they can be honest, have a laugh and be part of a supportive community.
Along the way, we talk about the things that matter: self esteem, speaking up, respect, knowing where to go for help when life gets hard and the dreams they have for their lives.
Then we celebrate
The program ends with Carrying Generations: a night of art, story and celebration. The young women share their pieces with family, friends and community at a celebration night with music, food and plenty of pride. For many, it will be the first time their story has been seen in some form. This is what it’s all for: a young woman standing next to her work, with her community around her. You’ll be invited too!
Where your money goes
$5,000 covers both workshops for 25 young women and the celebration night.
$40 buys an art kit a young woman can take home
$250 pays a facilitator for one workshop
$1,500 covers the celebration night
If we raise more than $5,000, we’ll run more workshops.
We’ll ask every young woman how she’s going at the start and the end. Her confidence, her self-esteem, whether she feels connected and whether she knows where to get help if needed. We’ll share what we find with you.
We’ve done this before
At our youth week event, 25 young people came together through art and storytelling. We’ve also run events and workshops at schools, youth services, headspace and councils.
Meet Yeshal
I’m Yeshal, the founder of Yes Help Network. I know what it’s like to grow up carrying more than you can say out loud. That’s why I care so much about young women having a place where they feel like they matter. Across Western Sydney, I’ve run creative workshops, listened to young people and worked alongside communities to create spaces where their experiences are valued. This campaign is the next step.
